IT’S A FLANAGAN THUNDERBOLT FOR COUGARS UNDER8’S BLUES

Cougars Under8’s blues continued their superb form in their final run out before Christmas. A game between two sides of contrasting styles with the Buntingford operating their fluid passing style from the off against a tough Biggleswade Warriors side. The scoring started early with Thomas Deane getting a faint touch that somehow eluded the opposition keeper within the first minute. The Blues though, found themselves behind from two opportunistic strikes but didn’t let their heads drop and right on half time Sebbie Ivison broke down the left and tucked a neat shot inside the near post for an equaliser.

In the second half it was the turn of Tom Flanagan to get his scoring boots on. From a goal kick Ronnie Hennessey expertly robbed the opposition and fed Flanagan for a cool finish. Shortly afterwards Flanagan struck a thunderbolt from fully 25 yards and not long after completed his hat-trick from the penalty spot once he’d dusted himself off from a trip. It was to be a nervy finish for the Blues until the game was put to bed in the final minute through Ivison’s second.

Aside from the goals, Hennessey was great on the flanks and at the back, Charlie Wicks was unlucky in front of goal with several chances but man of the match went to Oliver Tallis for goalkeeping prowess in the first half and a very strong defensive performance in the second half – he had to be very strong in the tackle and prevented a number of attacks at source. An enthusiastic Cougars fan said afterwards “Well played again Blues. Enjoy your Christmas break – more of the same in the New Year please.”
