Cougars U14s Whites League Champions

The Royston Crow Youth League U14 Division 3 season finale saw newly crowned league champions Buntingford Cougars Whites take on bottom placed Shefford Saints. In a game that was a joyous celebration of youth football, Cougars attack partnerships of Cavill Costi, Nathan Edwards, Matthew Baker and Ewan White harried the opposition whilst the midfield giants of Tommy Jackson, Toby Grieves and Matthew Walker battled for control of the centre of the park. The season-long unimpeachable performances of Sam Smith, Ben Hawthorne, Sam Gerring, James Hart and Will Roads continued to the end and the match was capped off by some spectacular goalkeeping displays from Ben Mackley and George Lovegrove. All told, Cougars U14 Whites have achieved a high level this season as league champions and now look forward to the challenge of Division 2.

Coach Rob Hawthorn said “all I would say is .. It’s been a supreme team effort .. Just because of the way they’ve worked for each other”

Coach Lloyd Edwards stated “They’ve displayed an outstanding work ethic and, even when things have been going against them, shown great resolve!”

Under 6’s Blues and Whites travelled to Biggleswade on Saturday 7th May for a friendly against Biggleswade Town in a friendly 6aside

Everyone enjoyed themselves in the good weather, the under 6’s are beginning to play well as a team with great passing and defending

Cougars’ Under 7’s Stripes v Stevenage Thunder Under 7’s

It was “Fun in the Sun” at the Bury with two well matched teams putting on a great spectacle for another capacity crowd. Tom Flanagan made a fantastic debut for Cougars and was unlucky not to be rewarded with at least one goal – denied time after time by the impressive Stevenage keeper.  At the other end, Johnny Nicholas also shone in goal with a smart one handed effort the pick of a bunch of saves. In defence Joseph de Monte put in a player of the match performance with plenty of tackles and some great passing from the back. Sam Dawson, Jack Nicholas and Finlay Tanner all contributed to a great team effort as Cougars really developed their passing game. Cougars’ goals from Johnny Nicholas and Finlay Tanner were the icing on the cake of an excellent all round Cougars performance.

Cougars’ Under 7’s Whites v Morden Magpies

Charlie Wick started in between the posts and he showed good awareness early on to close down the opposition. Midfield maestro Sebbie Ivison was in control creating chances for Tyler Cole and Rafael White. Oliver Tallis was strong in defence and the larger under 8s pitch allowed the pacey Thomas Deane to get in behind the visitors defence. Thomas Deane relieved Wick of his goalkeeping duties in the second half. Allowing Charlie to take up position on the left wing.

In the second half, Rafael white nearly scored an amazing header – it was well saved by the Morden keeper. Oliver Tallis was also denied twice by the excellent visiting stopper. The goal of the game was scored by Charlie Wick ago hit what can only be described as a screamer into the net. Tyler Cole and Sebbie Ivison were also on the score sheet, they have also been practising their dodgy celebrations at home too……

After the game it was back to the club house for hot dogs and Justin Beiber.

Cougars U9s Blues – The team showed strength away from home against Stotfold Juniors Gold. After a very poor start with poor passing and very basic defensive errors they were trailing at half time.  After a change around in positions and an encouraging half time team talk the boys turned it round, a great team effort, man of match was James Tungett.

Cougars U9s Whites – a great result for the boys at the weekend against Baldock Knights Austin Cook was dynamite in front of goal scoring 6. His first one was a fantastic demonstration of passing as every member of the team on the pitch passed the ball before it hit the net. Man of the Match was Austin Cook.

Cougars U11s Blues

After an even start to their match at home to St Neots ,the blues took control of the game with some fantastic passing and teamwork. Goals came from Stan W and Olly B with Sam M getting his first goal of the season and Man of the Match.

Ethan V was untroubled in goal with Samuel M , Rocco D ,Freddie B,& Jack H all keeping strong in defence .Stan G was strong in midfield & Dexter C made some superb runs down the line.

Manager Danny Miles & Coach Richard Bentley said ‘the boys played really well in very tough, hot conditions. Great team goals.’
