GULLS SOAR FOR COUGARS UNDER7’s

The Bury was foggy on Saturday but it did not take the gloss off what was a treat of a match for Cougars Under7’s as they welcomed Melbourn Dynamo’s.

From the kick off, the home side took the game to Melbourn and it was well deserved when a neat through ball to Anthony Gull led to him scoring from a tight angle in the third minute.

More good attacking play led to Cougar’s second goal by Alex Pooley from just three yards out. Pooley scored again after forcing an error from the Melbourn defence before Ryan Gull hit the post from a Pooley pass.

Excellent defensive tackles from Lucas Crook broke up the Melbourn attacks and some fine saves from Ted Doncaster meant to a clean sheet in goal after the first quarter.

After the break, two quick goals by Melbourn brought the visitors back into the game which stayed competitive with strong tackles by Oliver Sweetman and Doncaster. A throw on to Anthony Gull saw him pass two players and shoot just wide of the post. When Sweetman later went in between the sticks he kept a further clean sheet in the third quarter.

In the last 10 mins Melbourn scored the again but two fine saves by Anthony Gull kept Buntingford level. After the match Team Manager Alex Doncaster told Match of the Day’s Alan Shearer “Cougars Under7’s Stripes are showing a great team spirit and their competitiveness resulted in this great game.” Player of the week went Anthony Gull for his fine performance.
