COLE BURNS BRIGHT FOR COUGARS 8’s BLUES

Last week Cougars Under8s Blues welcomed Shephall United to The Bury. With an overnight cub camp taking place it was a changed blues team that took to the field at the Bury.

The well dressed, stylish man in black blew the whistle to get us under way. Thomas Deane in the sticks, Finley Tanner right, Tom Flanagan left, Ronnie Hennessy at the back and Tyler Cole up front with Charlie Wick ready to come on from the bench.

A tactical battle early on with little goalmouth action. Hennessy and Tanner keeping the opposition at bay. Wick fired just wide and Flanagan showed great pace before shooting just past the post.

One fine save by Deane just on half time kept things scoreless at the break.

It was a different story after the break, Deane injecting pace down the wing with several lung busting runs and both sides showing more attacking intent.

Shephall struck first from a corner before Wick pulled off a wonder save tipping one round the post. At the other end Flanagan, released by Deane, drew a finger tip save!

Then came the move of the match. Tanner played it wide right to Deane who set off to the corner. Drag back, drag back, drag back, leaving the defender all twisted up, a crisp pass to Cole on the edge of the box who played it first time to Flanagan to side foot home. Wonderful team goal.

Then Deane picked up an interception, advanced on goal and unleashed a drive into the top left corner. Lovely finish. Shephall struck back with a couple of their own including a lovely long distance strike. Just before full time Wick’s shot agonisingly whistled past the post.

BT Sports |Glenn Hoddle said afterwards. It was a really tough battle of a game. Well played both teams.
