After what seemed like an endless weather induced break Cougars U9s got back into the groove on Saturday. Their journey took Cougars U9s Blues to face Bedwell in Stevenage with the boys raring to go.
The first match saw an even affair with Bedwell going close in the first half with shots just off target and a couple of one on ones with the keeper Stuart Earriss dealing with their strikers’ efforts.
The second half saw Cougars do well despite attacking uphill and the efforts of Robin Harpin and Kameron Weston managed to keep the hosts away from their goal. Their tenacity was rewarded with just a few minutes to go as George Bovington challenged and won the ball in the centre circle and shrugged off two challenges before slotting past the home side’s guardian to notch his seventh goal this season.
It was then all hands to the pump as Bedwell piled on the pressure but Cougars managed to hold on for their first victory of the season.
In their second match Cougars Blues and Bedwell played out another even game but with a few more goals. Cougars went ahead after an attack led to Sam Daly scoring his first ever goal from close range. Soon after Bedwell scored a good goal to equalise.
With honours even Cougars stepped up a gear in the second half and were rewarded when Hayden Walley tapped in a cross before Bedwell scored twice to go ahead 3-2 with a few minutes to go. With a last minute corner Buntingford pushed players forward and defender Brogan Fahkfahk netted a well deserved equaliser.
Man of the match went to Sam Daly for his hard work and great attitude and after the match Coach Richard Walley said “Of course it was great to come away with a win and a draw but just as pleasing is the way the guys are now working hard for each other and moving the ball around with good passing”.
