Another weekend with weather taking its toll saw just a few Cougars games for the brave – thanks to Mums, Dads and players for braving the conditions today . . . . .
Our U10’s Whites enjoyed their trip over the county border to Bedfordshire and in atrocious conditions earned a great victory scoring five to the host’s two. The Cougars scorers were Kameron Weston with two, Archie Vass-Smart and man of the match George Godfrey. There were great performances from everyone including Robin Harpin, Josh Ridings, Evan Howard, Josh Lucas and Sam Daly in goal who was brave in a couple of one on ones. The photo shows a cold, wet but very happy Cougars Whites with Coaches Dean Howard and Darryl Dean.
Cougars U10’s Blues traveled to St Davids and enjoyed a 4-1 victory as well as managing to play some good football in extremely difficult conditions. The match started well for the visitors as Jimmy Brown popped up in the box to stroke home from six yards after a good move. Soon after Jack Gurney finished well in a one on one with the keeper after a solo run from the halfway line. In the second half Nathan Anderson made it three after he finished off a great team move. Gurney’s hard work created the fourth when he crossed from the left to allow Charlie Fountain to slot home before St Davids scored a consolation in the last five minutes. Manager Richard Daly said after the game (through chattering teeth) “The lads were a credit to the club today. In awful weather there were no complaints – just a great performance.”
Buntingford’s U11’s in 4th place entertained 3rd placed Plantation Youth and were keen to keep the momentum of some good results. The first half was an even affair in nasty conditions and ended with a goal apiece. Early in the second half though Cougars went a goal behind before equalising. With Ryan Skinner leading the troops as conditions worsened Cougars went ahead 3-2 before the home side wrapped the game up with a fourth thanks to some great play by Oliver Garratt and a cool finish from Luke Ranner. The result pushes Cougars into 3rd spot and for his leadership on the pitch man of the match for Cougars was Ryan Skinner.
In the only other game of the weekend Cougars U13’s Cougars put five past Sawbridgeworth who scored one in reply.
