Buntingford Cougars Under16 Blues kicked off 2015 with a bang and leapt to the top of the Trophyuk.net Youth Football League U16s top division with an emphatic victory over Stevenage Vikings after Sean Curran’s side accumulated six goals to no reply by half time.
The hosts made changes made at the interval which even things up in the second half but Cougars were still too strong for the Stevenage based Vikings.
Sam Curran opened the scoring early in the first half and goals followed from Scott Bachelor with his second hat-trick in two games, Josh Wyatt (2), Jack McMeechan, Connor Poulton & Oladapo Fadayini.
Buntingford’s Under16’s boss Sean Curran was pleased with the result but not getting too carried away as he said “Of course it’s nice to start the year being top but we have a couple of big games coming up in January as we face second placed Hitchin and then fourth placed Letchworth as well as FC Comets in the cup quarter final”.
Elsewhere for Cougars the Under11’s Stripes put in their best performance of the season but were narrowly defeated by Letchworth Reds on the 3G at Baldock. Edward Green, Tom Ryman and Freddy Lee were outstanding at the back and Lily Hall, Freddy Cocks and Ciaran Jenkins were solid in midfield and Charlie Griggs was lively up front alongside man of the match Shane Coyne. Meanwhile Cougars Under12’s Blues swapped places with Bedwell after a comfortable victory.
