NICHOLAS LADS PUT ON A SHOW FOR COUGARS U8’s WHITES

Buntingford’s Under8’s Whites faced a strong Hitchin Town on Saturday and can look back on this fixture with some pride. Cougars tackled, passed and moved with encouraging determination and discipline, sticking to their game plan throughout. There were moments of great technique whether winning the ball or with the ball from Finlay Tanner, Sam Dawson, Tash MacNamara, Rubi Pryke, Noah Benton, Johnny Nicholas and Jack Nicholas. The level of teamwork was impressive and all the outfield players wanted the ball to the last, forcing no fewer than 5 corners in the final few minutes of the game. Inevitably the goalie stood out, with bravery off his line from Johnny Nicholas on more than one occasion in the first half, capped by a superb one handed save of a shot from distance. Not to be outdone his brother Jack contributed a variety of impressive saves in the second half, while Tanner and Dawson competed for the OPTA “most tackles” accolade. In the end it was Tanner who earned The Coach’s player of the match award “for his solid performance at the back and great passing and dribbling going forward.” For once the J2O moment has to go to the opposition… for a rifled cross and volley just wide, that would not have looked out of place on MOTD!
