Cougars Under8s Whites looked in fine fettle on Saturday morning. Cougars started the game strongly, were well organised and pushed the ball to one another thoughtfully, spreading the play well. Cougars were kept at bay until the second half mainly due to the prowess of the opposing keeper. On another day Noah Benton would have had a hatrick for this was the finest game of his young career, he looked very dangerous in his favoured position up front but sadly for him was unable to register.
That cannot, however, be said of the majestic Sam Dawson who broke the deadlock early into the second period, squirting a shot just inside the goalkeeper’s left upright. It was no more than Buntingford had deserved and soon the floodgates were to open as a second and near identical effort was notched by Joseph De Monte who had been magnificent all morning at the heart of the defence. Sam Dawson was soon to hit his second before James Willis added a fourth direct from a corner. In the last five minutes, Stotfold began to impose themselves but Cougars held out for the win. A most commanding display all told with Finlay Tanner, Rubi Pryke and James Willis all keeping clean sheets between the sticks but it was the determination and the ball winning of every player that impressed most.
