Cougars Under13s travelled to Welwyn Garden City to face the City’s Cyclones in the League Shield. Following a 7-1 hammering early in the season Dean Howard’s side appeared to be on the back foot in the early exchanges and the hosts deservedly went one up with a goal from a corner.
Cougars equalised though with a goal of the season contender as Charlie Fountain put a sublime through ball to Tom Carter and the tricky striker scored a cracker with an angled drive.
Welwyn went ahead again midway through the first half but the visitors equalised again when provider turned poacher when Fountain slotted home well.
The second half was an even and tense affair and it was a determined effort that put Cougars ahead as Carter got his second from close range. To wrap up the game with ten minutes to go George Godfrey pushed up from his usual defensive duties to score in a one on one with the keeper.
Following the game Assistant Coach Pete Lee told the BBC’s Jermaine Jenas “We started slow but in the end were deserved winners. Everyone played well in what was a great team display”
