Cougars U10’s Turn On The Style

Buntingford Cougars Blues U10’s 4           Lea Sports PSG  0

Cougars hosted Hitchin based Lea Sports for the first match of this season and ran out as comfortable winners after the first goal was scored. The early encounters of the match were very even with both sides playing some nice football but neither being able to penetrate some well organised defences despite some corners and well worked throw ins from both teams.

Midway through the first half it was the home side who managed to break the deadlock with a good team move that created some confusion in the visitors goalmouth. The first player to react to the loose ball and slot it home from within the box was Buntingford’s Nathan Anderson. For the rest of the half the play remained very even and pretty competitive.

As the second half started the visitors began strongest with some penetrating runs but Cougars back line of Luke Goodchild and Jake Votariello held firm and also made good use of the ball when they won it. As the hosts started to get back into the game the decisive goal was scored as after some good work by George Godfrey and Jack Gurney as  Anderson hit his second of the game under a diving keeper.

At the halfway point in the second half last season’s top scorer George Godfrey added his name to the score line after his persistence paid dividends to effectively kill the game off for the hosts. In the last five minutes Cougars man of the match Hayden Walley demonstrated some super individual skills on the edge of the opposition box to slot a clever through ball into Jack Gurney who coolly slotted home under the keeper.

In the second match Cougars Whites played Lea Sports and put in a fine performance with what was the most determined and tenacious performance the players had ever displayed. Good performances from Sam Daly, Josh Ridings, Kameron Weston and man of the match Tom Carter showed that the team have progressed significantly despite the summer break.

After the match Cougars Manager Richard Daly said “the players were a credit to the club and their families today. Their attitude was positive and I was so pleased to see that every single player has progressed since last season. We are now looking forward to our next encounter to show that we can sustain our positive start.”
