PRIVATE RYAN SAVES THE DAY FOR UNDER7’S BLUES

Cougars U7’S Blues welcomed Hitchin based Lea Sports to The Bury on Saturday Morning for their third encounter of the season. Cougars got the game underway and quickly settled into their stride Dylan Burtenshaw was controlling the defence allowing Hadley Anton, Ryan Neill and Ethan Doughty to cause havoc in the opposition half. The first chance of the game fell to Anton after a good passing move he found himself one on one only to be denied by the Lea Sports goalkeeper. Other chances followed for Neill and Doughty and Oliver Gilks-Stokes came close to scoring his first Cougars goal but was denied by the post, as was Anton and Neill (twice).

After a great Half Time team talk from Hadley Anton explaining that you can’t win every game using the example that “even Tottenham could only draw with Arsenal” the boys were fired up for a comeback, Doughty went in goal and Daniel Barr now took control of matters in defence to allow chances for the Blues. Another four one on one chances came and went, the post and crossbar were struck and a goalmouth scramble just trickled wide. Lea Sports were now playing some neat football too.

The Blues persevered and finally made a breakthrough when Anton’s fine pass found Neill, who gave gave the keeper no chance as he fired his shot into the top left corner. Cougars kept creating chances and carried on playing to the end. Player of the Week was a tough choice but was awarded to Ryan Neill for his great attitude, brilliant teamwork and the fact he kept going to the end which resulted in him scoring a screamer.
