GILBEY DAZZLES AT BOTH ENDS FOR COUGARS UNDER7S WHITES

Saturday morning saw Cougars U7 Whites welcome Royston Town U7’s to the Bury in a decisive local derby, Zac Allen got the game underway and straight away Oscar Pledger was on the attack, only a good save from the Royston goalkeeper denied him the opening goal. Jamie Moule and Alfie Gilbey were controlling the defence and looked comfortable, the first goal of the game came when Allen found the impressive Ethan Doughty who dribbled past a defender and finished calmly. Less than a minute later the Cougars scorer then decided to show off his basketball skills in the penalty area, the referee awarded a penalty and despite a fine attempted save from Aiden Moule Royston equalised. There was one more goal before half time with Doughty running the full length of the pitch to double his tally.

The second half saw a change in goal for the Whites with Alfie Gilbey replacing Moule, Cougars picked up where they left off in the first half and were awarded a penalty for handball which Moule hit powerfully only to hit the post. With Cougars controlling the play Allen combined with Pledger and Moule in a great passing move that saw Moule score Cougars’ third goal. Gilbey was now performing heroics in goal and denied the visitors on two occasions before a deflected strike peg one back for Royston. The game was now end to end with just one goal in it. Gilbey made another crucial save before Allen and Pledger were denied at the other end, finally Doughty scored with another fine finish to complete his hat trick. Player Of The Week was awarded to Alfie Gilbey for a good performance on pitch, for volunteering to go in goal for the second half and finally for some terrific match winning saves.
