CROOK STEALS THE SHOW FOR COUGARS 7s AT HARES

Cougars Under7s Stripes took the short excursion to Puckeridge to meet Hares; The hosts took an early lead and could have scored several were it not for some excellent shot stopping from Lucas Crook in goal. Good defensive tackles by Ryan Gull and Ted Doncaster also kept Cougars in the game after good attacking play by the Hares.

It was Gull and Doncaster’s strong timely tackles and quick passing to teammates feet that started to put pressure on Hares. The pivotal moment for the visitors was when Matthew Murphy took a quick intelligent throw in that put Alex Pooley into the box whose decisive shot found an equaliser which put the contest level at half time

The second half saw Murphy influential again as he broke quickly to run half the length of the pitch with the ball being chased by several Hares but he cooly slotted in at the far post for a great goal. Lucas Hardy’s solid defensive play repeatedly broke up the Hares attacks and one of his interceptions  fed Murphy who’s pass in turn went to Pooley In the box again, who shot just wide of the post.

Murphy then scored again but the best was yet to come as a remarkable left footed half volley by Lucas Crook found the top left hand corner of the Hares net. The effort will be a contender for the Match of the Day’s goal of the season as the crowd cheered in disbelief of the quality of the finish.

Hardy then scored his first ever Cougars goal blasting through a crowded penalty area before Murphy finished a fine Stripes team performance by getting his hatrick. Further goals from Hares made for a morning of net bulging and cheers. Cougars player of the week went to Lucas Crook for his work between the sticks and his outstanding strike.
